Multifaceted Beings
When getting to know another person, if we explore with curiosity we often discover that we are multifaceted beings. No two people are exactly alike. We all have our own ways of doing things. For example, different daily routines, different lifestyle choices, different belief systems, different body types, the list goes on and on. What may work for one person may not work for another. So, in regards to healing, from my perspective it makes the most sense to address ALL parts of a person (physical, emotional, and spiritual). If we focus on only one aspect of our healing and let the rest fall by the wayside, we may miss a key component that would help us to progress in our journey.
Feeling Broken
In my personal healing journey, I came to realize the importance of integration and alternative healing modalities when the traditional medical model was simply not working for me. I would see a doctor for a specific imbalance (oftentimes it was allergy related) and felt uneasy about the fact that I was only seen for about 15 minutes. I was not asked many questions aside from exactly what was going on with symptoms, was prescribed some medication and sent out the door. It did not sit well with me that I felt I was just another number. And that the doctor might not even remember my name. It always felt impersonal to me, especially being that most of the time these ailments had a major impact on my life and were leading to emotional distress.
In hindsight, I now see that the medications that were prescribed only acting as bandaids to my symptoms. The root cause was never addressed. Therefore, I continued to get more and more inflamed. I did not realize my highly processed, conventional, high sugar diet was only worsening my condition.
My Healing Journey
Truly, yoga was the starting point for me in my wellness journey. I have mild scoliosis, and I was told that practicing yoga might help to relieve some discomfort I was experiencing. Prior to attending my first yoga class, I had no idea about the spiritual component to yoga. For the first time in a long time, I had felt a part of a community. Yoga gives me a sense of belonging. And every part of my body screamed “YES!”. It was exactly what I needed. I continued to show up for this physical and spiritual practice and dove deeper and deeper into my Self.
Consequently, I began attending holistic expos and exposing myself to alternative ways of healing the body and mind. As I walked down this path and reconnected with my body, I learned to trust my body’s wisdom and its cues. I became more aware of imbalances and worked on healing these parts of me through multiple different avenues, rather than just ignoring these signs. No longer was I covering up the issue temporarily with some kind of synthetic drug labeled as “medicine”.
What’s Your Medicine?
Now, I find my medicine looks much different. Medicine for me is connection (with others, with myself, and with Source). It also looks like eating whole foods, drinking clean water, laughter, spending time outside, dancing, singing, moving, receiving energy work, and simply just showing up for my self-care. When I run out of my own tools, I know I have a variety of resources I can turn to. I am blessed to know practitioners that will offer me guidance and share their insight. This allows me to continue to learn, grow, and heal.
Supporting Each Other
I share my personal story with you in hopes that if you’ve been experiencing something similar, or have in the past, that maybe some of what I say resonates with you. Together, we can acknowledge that there is not a one-size-fits-all treatment plan for healing. There are SO many layers to healing. There is so much to uncover! It may feel very overwhelming if you are just beginning to realize this and feel that you are on your own to figure all of this out. Luckily, I can assure you that you are not.
Integrative Wellness
Whenever I get the opportunity to talk about Ampersand, I light up as I share what sets us apart from other wellness centers. We all share similar beliefs and humility knowing that one of our practitioners cannot be everything for everyone. We value integrating our services so that we can better assist clients. Our team meets weekly to discuss clients that are seeing multiple practitioners. These weekly meetings give us the opportunity to share notes and offer feedback. One of us may be able to catch something that another practitioner may not, yet this information is helpful to their work with that client. Our main focus is empowering individuals to make choices that feel right for their wellness. And we get to offer guidance and support along the way!
Coming Home to Wholeness
This is a much more personalized and unconventional approach to healing. I’ve heard clients share that Ampersand feels like a second home to them. They feel safe with us, knowing that we genuinely care about their well-being and we accept all broken parts of a person. We understand that in order to feel whole again, all of these pieces need to be taken into consideration. No matter what you have been through, no matter how heavy your past is, we are here to hold space for you. If you are looking to get started on your integrative wellness journey, please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of our team.
Every time we show up for our individual healing, we emanate that vibration. That vibration can be felt by others and in turn we are assisting in the healing of the entire planet.
