Birthing Support

Cara offers a variety of services to support birthing people and their supporters in pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum experiences

Birthing Support

Cara Hart, MA, MT-BC is a dually-certified music therapist and full-spectrum doula. Cara is a trained Sound Birthing Music™ practitioner, and is trained in the First Sounds: Rhythm, Breath, Lullaby NICU music therapy method. She offers a variety of services to support birthing people and their supporters in pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum experiences. She is also a trained birth & bereavement doula, and uses music therapy to provide compassionate support during or following pregnancy or infant loss.

Music Therapy-Assisted Childbirth

A Music Therapy-Assisted Childbirth (MTACB) program is for clients who want guidance on how to most effectively utilize music during their labor and birth, and desire Cara’s presence and support at their birth. It is usually offered in the third trimester of pregnancy, and involves education regarding how to use preferred and personalized music to support physical and emotional needs throughout the stages of labor and delivery. MTACB has been found to significantly decrease anxiety and discomfort responses and decrease the need for analgesic medications during birth, and contributes to overall positive feelings about the pregnancy and birthing process.

MTACB program consists of:

  • Live (in-person or virtual) support during labor and delivery
  • 3 prenatal sessions and 1 postpartum session
  • Creation of a Birth Preference Sheet
  • Personalized playlists for use in early labor, active labor, and postpartum bonding
  • Access to library of pre-programmed playlists for use in all stages of labor
  • Recording of Womb Song (special song written for baby)/Lullaby
  • Considerations for use of music and access to playlists for baby’s new life outside the womb

Birth Music Consultation

Birth Music Consultation is for clients who want guidance on how to effectively utilize pre-recorded music in their birthing experiences, but do not desire Cara’s presence during labor and delivery. This is a great option for people who have sufficient birth support, already have a doula, prefer privacy during birthing, or are unable to have an extra support person due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A Birth Music Consultation package consists of:

  • 3 prenatal hours (conducted in person or virtually)
  • Personalized playlists for use in early labor, active labor, and postpartum bonding
  • Access to library of pre-programmed playlists for use in all stages of labor
  • Guidance for comfort measures, relaxation techniques, and use of music for labor and delivery
  • Recording of Womb Song/Personalized Lullaby
  • Considerations for use of music and access to playlists for baby’s new life outside the womb
  • 1 Postpartum check in (offer support, provide education for calming baby and self care, etc.)

Mini Birth Music Consult

A Mini Birth Music Consult is a great option for those who have experienced birthing before and feel well-supported, and would benefit from education regarding the use of music to support the emotional and physical processes of pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

A Mini Birth Music Consult consists of:

  • One 60-minute consult (in person or virtually) that covers:
    • Using music to establish and or enhance prenatal routine
    • How to create personalized playlists for use in early labor, active labor, and postpartum bonding
    • Access to library of pre-programmed playlists for use in all stages of labor
    • Guidance for comfort measures, relaxation techniques, and use of music for labor and delivery
    • 1 Postpartum check in (offer support, provide education for calming baby, sleep strategies, and self care)

*These options are all flexible, and can be individualized based on needs.
