About this class
This deeply relaxing class is for every body: active or inactive, young or old. It is done on the floor with cushions, blankets, and other yoga props.Class begins with 20 minutes of yin yoga, a slow and gentle format that is the perfect antidote to an aging body, a busy life, or burnout from stress. Class ends with yoga nidra, sometimes called “yogic sleep,” which is a powerful relaxation practice that can act as a natural (and potent) stress reliever. Leave feeling bathed in luxury and deeply nourished—comfort for all layers of your being. Arrive home restored, with a true sense of relaxed awareness.

Yin Yoga uses relaxing, static postures to alleviate tension, enhance breath awareness, and develop mindfulness, in addition to promoting emotional balance, improved flexibility, and increased circulation. Yin yoga also boasts benefits steeped in Taoist principles, having a very similar effect on our body’s energetic pathways as an acupuncture treatment.

In yoga nidra, we are lying down and the goal is to move to a deeper state of relaxed awareness. The instructor guides breath and focus, while the brain shifts between sleeping and waking states; it’s like your body sleeps while your mind remains conscious and clear. We get the benefits of meditation, guiding our bodies to “rest and digest” mode—but because of the deeper relaxation and brain state, more potent effects begin to emerge. The oft-overworked nervous system gets a respite, levels of the “feel good” neurotransmitter dopamine increase, and a myriad of physical and emotional dis-ease can better locate a sense of relief.
